Auto Show Revs Up Convention Center

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Car aficionados your time has come as the 106th annual Philadelphia International Auto Show opened on Saturday.

Approximately 300,000 visitors are expected to gaze at the over 700 vehicles on display at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

"I look for something that's sporty and kind of sexy because I have long commute to work so when I pass people on the turnpike I want to feel good," customer Andrea Pawlowski said.

"I love the GPS system because I'm running all over with my kids and if we're at one spot and need to get to the next and if I don't have time to go home and do a Mapquest I can just punch it up right there in the car," Mary Lynn Alvarino said.

Cars from 40 different manufacturers will be featured at the show along with pre-production vehicles, concept cars and a few vintage and exotic sets of wheels as well.

In celebration of their 40th anniversary, Subaru is displaying the first vehicle introduced in the United States up to their latest model.

But it is the cars that many have never seen that draw the larger crowds.

"I think the most exciting things are the pre-production. We've had more than we've ever had before, 16 of them, and they'll be in the marketplace for sale in the next 12 months," said Kevin Mazzucola the executive director of the Auto Dealers Association.

Those looking to go green can gander at the latest hybrid models to hit the streets.

Doors open up on the show Saturday at 9 a.m. The Philadelphia International Auto Show runs until February 10.

Tickets are available at the door at $12 for adults and $6 for kids. You can also purchase them online at www.phillyautoshow.com.
