Wounded Officer Released From Hospital

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― The Philadelphia policeman who came to aid of fallen Officer Patrick McDonald was released from the hospital Friday afternoon.

Officer Richard Bowes was wounded during a shootout with 27-year-old Daniel Giddings in North Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon.

Officer Bowes was struck in the left hip, but was able to fire six shots, fatally wounding Giddings.

Moments before Officer Bowes was wounded, Giddings shot and killed Officer McDonald.

Officer Bowes, 35, was released from Temple University Hospital and returned to his Northeast Philadelphia home where he will begin his rehab process.

Officer Bowes is a 12-year veteran of the force and is married with three children.

Officer McDonald's viewing for family and friends will be held September 29 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Givnish Funeral Home in Northeast Philadelphia. A public viewing will immediately follow at 6 p.m.

On September 30, there will be a viewing from 7:30 a.m. to Noon at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul. A funeral mass will begin at Noon with burial immediately following at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem.
