Hundreds of mourners gathered at a Northeast Philadelphia church Tuesday evening to remember an officer killed in the line of duty.
Officer Patrick McDonald, 30, was fatally shot by a gunman in North Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon. A second officer was wounded but is expected to recover.
Many who knew Officer McDonald attended a prayer service at Christ The King Church in Northeast Philadelphia Tuesday evening.
Officer McDonald graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School and was a regular attendee of Sunday mass at Christ The King.
"He had a very strong duty, not just to you and me, but also to God," McDonald's grade school principal Sister Trudy Helder said.
Officer McDonald lived alone in the same Northeast Philadelphia home in which he grew up and was the son of a fire department captain.
"He's gone, and the way he's taken and not see him anymore," friend Jennifer Breighton said.
Officer McDonald is survived by his parents and a sister.
