Crush Leads To Stabbing At Del. Restaurant

NEWARK, Del. (CBS 3) ― Police believe spurned romantic advances led a Delaware man to stab two co-workers inside a Newark restaurant Monday evening.

As police arrested the suspect, 23-year-old Daniel Yoon, he told reporters, "I'm proud of what I've done. I am a (expletive) diabolical killer."

Authorities said the attack occurred inside a Houlihan's Restaurant on Center Boulevard in Newark just before 6 p.m.

Yoon, who had worked as a waiter at the restaurant for about a month, apparently became enraged after a 19-year-old co-worker denied his romantic advances.

"After he had been text messaging her and making advances for her for over a month, I guess today was the day and he was just not going to take 'no' for an answer," Corporal Jeffrey Whitmarsh of the Delaware State Police said.

The suspect apparently followed the female worker into a restroom where he assaulted her before grabbing a steak knife and stabbing her several times, police said.

The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition with injuries to her face, neck, head and upper body.

"Apparently one of the stab wounds went right through her cheek and into her tongue," Whitmarsh said.

Police said a 23-year-old co-worker walked in during the stabbing and suffered cuts to her hands as she fought off the suspect. She locked herself and the badly wounded victim in a handicapped stall until officers arrived. She was treated and released for her injuries at Christiana Hospital.

"He very well could have killed her if he had the chance to continue his attack, so I really think the second co-worker was a hero in this case," Whitmarsh said.

The owner of Houlihan's, Chris Sarwell, said the attack makes him sick to his stomach.

"My biggest concern is for my employees that are in the hospital right now," he said.

Yoon faces charges of attempted murder and related offenses. The investigation into the double stabbing is ongoing.
