Michelle Obama Campaigns In The Delaware Valley
ARDMORE (CBS 3) ―
The wife of Senator Barack Obama campaigned throughout suburban Philadelphia Thursday to raise support for her husband prior to the Pennsylvania primary.
The whirlwind campaign tour marked the first trip to Pennsylvania for Michelle Obama.
Her first stop was at Children's Ark Daycare at St. George's in Haverford where she read to children before holding a roundtable with mothers.
"I can help provide Barack with a sense of what's happening on the ground," Michelle Obama said.
Those who attended the discussion were excited to hear how Mrs. Obama balances work and family.
"She seemed to empathize well with a lot of the moms here, what we go through struggling with work and life," mother Kristine Cappello said.
Other working mother agreed.
"She has two children, she's a working mom and she knows what we go through everyday with childcare and finding good childcare for our children," said June Jaquith.
Following the discussion, Michelle Obama headed to Abington Senior High School for an afternoon rally where her message resonated with hundreds of supporters.
"We're suffering as Barack said from a deficit of empathy," Michelle said.
Michelle Obama ended her day at Villanova University where attendees waited hours in line to watch her speak. Though recent polls show Hillary Clinton with a slight led in Pennsylvania, Michelle Obama hopes that her visit will help close that gap.
"The fact that he is pulling a moderate Republicans and Independents along with Democrats, absolutely welcome, welcome," Michelle said.
