N.J. Athlete Killed In Va. Massacre Remembered

List And Descriptions Of Va. Tech Victims

FLEMINGTON (CBS 3) ― Members of a Hunterdon County community are banding together to remember a local student killed by a gunman during the tragic massacre on the campus of Virginia Tech.

A 2002 graduate of Hunterdon Central High School, 23-year-old Michael Pohle was one of 32 people killed by 23-year-old gunman Cho Seung-Hui on April 16.

Pohle, a former football and lacrosse player, was a good student and well liked in the Flemington community according to Hunterdon Central Vice Principal Craig Blanton.

"He had a very outgoing and engaging personality and I can't think of anybody that didn't like him," Blanton said.

Blanton added Pohle was one of 20 area students at Virginia Tech at the time of the horrific incident.

"We hoped and prayed that it didn't happen to anybody, especially your own. And then to find out yesterday that Michael was among one of the victims, it's just tragic," he said.

Neighbors placed ribbons of orange and red representing the colors of Virginia Tech to show their support for Pohle's family in their time of grief.

Pohle was set to graduate in three weeks from Virginia Tech with a degree in biological sciences.

Two other New Jersey natives were amongst those killed in Monday's shootings.

Matthew La Porte, 20, a sophomore from Dumont, and Julia Pryde, a graduate student from Middletown, died in the tragic events.

Julia Pryde, a graduate student from Middletown, was also killed.

Gloucester County native Sean McQuade, 21, remains in critical condition after being shot in the jaw during the massacre.

McQuade's family said the senior mathematics major is a fighter.

"I know he'll make it through, he's a strong kid," said his uncle, Terry McQuade.
