Pa. Soldier Receives Joyous Homecoming

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― A Berks County soldier received a hero's welcome home as he returned from Afghanistan Tuesday evening.

Matthew Roberts of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania landed safely at Philadelphia International Airport.

Roberts serves with the 173rd Airborne Brigade of the United States Army.

Family and friends greeted him at the gate with hugs, kisses, and tears of joy. Roberts said he is happy to be back and surrounded by loved ones.

"It feels to be home and be around people that I can talk to about some stuff that have either been there and done that or some of my friends that just understand," Roberts said.

This was Roberts' first deployment; he was stationed in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley.
