N.J. Marine Returns Home For Thanksgiving
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS 3) ―
A Gloucester County Marine received a hero's welcome home Wednesday as he returned from serving his country overseas.
"It's awesome to be home," Marine Corporal Anthony D'Amico said.
Corporal D'Amico was welcomed Wednesday in Washington Township just in time for Thanksiving.
"You lose your best friend, I didn't have him here to where anytime I had a bad day or something was wrong, I didn't have him and I couldn't call him on the phone
but I'm happy he's home," Anthony's wife Lisa said.
His parents are ecstatic to have their son home.
"My heart is whole, it's a wonderful Thanksgiving," Anthony's mom Terry said.
Anthony, a reservist, was activated to deploy to Iraq in August. He is not sure yet if he'll receive new orders.
"We're waiting on the president to give his word on if he wants more troops in Afghanistan," Anthony said.
For now, Anthony just wants to enjoy Thanksgiving with his loved ones.
"Just have a big turkey and stuffing, I can't wait to get away from the barrack's meals. I can't wait for a nice home cooked meal."
Anthony and Lisa got married quickly last spring, only a month after they were engaged. They are planning a big, formal wedding in May 2010.
