Plymouth Twp. Man Charged In Dog Attack
PLYMOUTH Twp. (CBS 3) ―
A Plymouth Township man has been charged after a little girl was bitten on the neck by a dog while visiting Maple Acres Farm in October.
Five-year-old, Miabella Delaney Lipshcutz had no idea when she arrived at the Montgomery County market to buy a Halloween pumpkin with her mom; that "Max" the seemingly friendly German Shepherd she was petting would suddenly attack, tearing apart her throat with his powerful jaws
"This should have never happened, and it only happened because of one man's reckless conduct," said Montgomery County D.A. Risa Vetri Ferman.
Miabella barely survived the attack, but her mother helped pry the dog's jaws apart.
"She is at risk for never being able to speak normally again," said the family's attorney, Matt Casey.
CBS 3 has learned this was not the first time Max has bitten someone. Since 2000 there have been four reported attacks. Three of the attack victims were children, the other a teenager, who lost an ear as a result.
The dog's owner, Gary McKeown, has now been charged with reckless endangering of another person and violating dog safety regulations.
The dog was declared a public health nuisance back in 2006, and McKeown was ordered to keep him on a leash and muzzle.
McKeown's attorney is claiming his client is not responsible because Max was in someone else's care at the time of the attack. Max has been put down since the attack.
