Armed Suspects Sought In 'Hippiefest' Heist
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Philadelphia police are searching for two armed bandits who struck the Mann Music Center during "Hippiefest 2008."
Investigators said the thieves made off with $11,000 during a robbery Tuesday evening.
Police said the suspects forced their way into a money drop office and demanded cash from two female employees.
"Give me the money and if you don't give me the money, we're going to shoot you and they turned the money over," Lt. John Walker explained.
Following the brazen robbery, police said the two suspects mixed in with crowds leaving the concert to execute their escape.
"It could have been dangerous with that amount of people, you could get a stampede or you get someone confronting these guys, a bunch of things could have happened," Lt. Walker said.
Police believe the crime may be an inside job due to the fact that the suspects wore shirts stolen from an event caterer and knew where to find the money.
According to police, the suspects are described as black males, 20 to 30 years old, last seen wearing Ovations work shirts with black pants and boots.
Anyone with information regarding this robbery should call police at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or Southwest Detective Division at 215-686-3183/4.
