Bucks Co. Family Develops Student Driver Magnets
SALISBURY, Pa. (CBS 3) ―
For new drivers like Kristen Bonacum the road can be a scary place.
"Drivers would give you bad looks and honk at you, and maybe inappropriate hand gestures. You get really nervous and worked up and feel even worse and really flustered," said Kristen.
With only a learners permit her father, Pete Bonacum, is along for the ride and says it's scary for him as well.
"She was white knuckled, I was white knuckled," he said.
Student driver, Tyler Klyman, has a similar story
Klyman says, "People would always be up on my tail, they would have their headlights on all the time, they just wouldn't care about me at all because they just thought it was just a bad driver."
After hearing so many of these stories Tyler's parents, Karen and Alan Klyman, decided something had to be done and came up with the idea for "student at the wheel" magnets.
Karen Klyman says that when people see the magnets "they say "oh wow" that's a new driver lets cut them some slack and give them some space."
Alan Klyman says, "It's not if they get into an accident but when."
The magnets give student drivers that extra layer of protection.
Tyler said once he began using the magnet "people started to slow down, gave me some space."
Kristen Bonacum said she feels safer with the magnet because "they give you a little bit more space, and you feel more comfortable."
Pete Bonacum says this magnet can prevent an accident from happening. If it prevents a new driver from getting nervous and reacting the wrong way, it could actually save a life."
