Phila. Woman Watches Pet Die In Brutal Attack

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― A Philadelphia woman talked to CBS 3 after she said her beloved dog died from injuries it sustained during a vicious attack by a neighborhood pit bull.

Sheryl Watson said she was walking her 4-year-old Yorkshire, Buddy, when a neighbor's pit bull attacked her dog at a Wynnefield apartment complex.

"This dog just went after him with a vengeance and just would not let him go," she said.

Watson said Buddy's stomach and intestines were ruptured in the attack and he suffered numerous puncture wounds all over his body. Veterinarians were forced to euthanize Buddy just a few days after the attack.

"I had to let him go. I have six thousand dollars in vet bills. I don't have the money, but I needed to take care of my dog," Watson said.

Watson suffered a broken toe and sprained ankle during the incident and said she has not been able to work since.

The same pit bull has previously attacked a man and another neighborhood dog, she said.

CBS 3's Valerie Levesque tried to contact the pit bull's owner, but the woman who answered the neighbor's door said she did not know the location of the dog.

The 19th Police District is now involved in the case after the pit bull's owner refused to give the dog up to PACCA.
