Philadelphians Reach Out To Liczbinski's Family
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Tuesday marked the 40th birthday of fallen
officer Sgt. Liczbinski and family and friends gathered at a memorial to
mark his birthday.
People gathered around the Port Richmond memorial Tuesday
evening with balloons and released them in remembrance of the fallen officer's birthday.
Many of the people who have been visiting the memorial
didn't know Liczbinski, but they feel a connection to a man who risked his life
for the City of Philadelphia.
"Another policeman being shot, it really hurts. It's so
senseless," said Cecelia Samsel, who visited the memorial on Tuesday.
"We were just coming from down South Philly going back
Northeast, and we wanted to come by and took a look and see where it happened.
Now that I am here, I really got the chills," said memorial visitor, Tom
Brennan.
A local flower shop on Richmond Street has been donating flowers
to the colorful memorial and the shop owner is doing his part to help the
officer's family.
"All the proceeds from the Mother's Day flowers is going
to be for his family," said shop owner, Jose Martinez.
A viewing for Sgt. Liczbinksi will be Thursday at 6 p.m.
at the Givnish Funeral Home at 10975
Academy Road.
Another viewing will be held Friday morning at 7:30 a.m.
before the funeral Mass at noon at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and
Paul.
