Freshmen Swarm Philly-Area Dorms
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Thousands of college freshmen swarmed into dorms at two Philadelphia universities Thursday.
At the north campus dormitories of La Salle University, security officers and volunteers coordinated the annual ballet of cars, coeds, and cardboard boxes. La Salle is welcoming its largest freshman class since 1980 -- 950 students.
It was also moving day at Temple University, where orange rolling bins were filled with computers, clothes, and the other necessities of dorm life. Nearly 7,000 new undergraduates will attend Temple this year: 4,100 freshmen and 2,800 transfer students.
At La Salle, one parent was offered a free T-shirt. He accepted, then cracked, "Free tuition would be good, too."
