Abducted Children Found Safe In Southwest Phila.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― An area family expressed their relief and joy after two young children were found in West Philadelphia after they were abducted during a car theft Wednesday.

Six-year-old George Hionas and his three-year-old sister Kaliopi Hionas were found safely inside their SUV at 61st and Passyunk Streets at about 9:30 p.m.

"Very, very happy, I can't even think of the words but the Philadelphia Police did an absolutely, 110 percent great job," father Nicholas Hionas said.

The siblings were sleeping in the backseat of a SUV in the 3200 block of Baring Street when the children's mother went inside a relative's home at about 7 p.m.

Police said an unknown suspect entered the running vehicle and drove off with the two children still inside.

An Amber Alert was quickly issued and the children's father, Nicolas Hionas, made a plea to the suspect.

"You don't want to know what I'm going through right now. It's just very difficult, very hard okay, hoping for the best," Nicolas said.

The vehicle, a silver BMW SUV, was located two hours later in the parking lot of a Southwest Philadelphia parking lot by a sergeant with Philadelphia's 12th District.

"There was two children in the car," Philadelphia Police Sgt. Charles Pattineo said. "I asked the kids if they were okay. They were okay, kids were scared."

The children's father, who works as a pilot, expressed his thanks and said he learned a valuable lesson after the frightening incident.

"Just be really, really, really, really careful with all your kids. You never know what happens. See it could've turned out the other way and I don't want to think about it," Hionas said.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the shopping center where the car was found in hopes of identifying the suspect. If you have any information, contact Philadelphia Police.
