2nd Arrest Made In Island Slaying Of Pa. Man

U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) ― Authorities have arrested a man accused of threatening a witness in the slaying of a 21-year-old Pennsylvanian in the U.S. Virgin Islands, police said Tuesday.

Ryan Meade, a 31-year-old resident of St. John, was arrested Monday, police Commissioner James McCall said at a news conference. The suspect in the killing, Kamal Thomas, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree murder, assault and weapons possession.

The victim, James Cockayne, of New Hope, Pa., was stabbed to death June 19 on the island of St. John as he waited to begin work at a yacht club. Investigators have not disclosed a motive.

Witnesses said Cockayne got into a bar fight the night of his death and was struck over the head with a pool cue before he and Thomas were ordered to leave, according to court documents.
