Montco. Teen Rescued After Horse Riding Accident

SKIPPACK TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS 3) ― A quick-thinking plan helped save a teenager's life after she fell off a horse in Montgomery County Tuesday evening.

Two sisters were horseback riding in Evansburg State Park in Skippack Township just before dusk when one of the girls accidentally fell off her horse.

Volunteers from the Skippack emergency medical services initially had a difficult time locating the injured 16-year-old and her sister.

The volunteers used short siren bursts to assist the search. The victim's sister was able to relay over her cell phone how close the ambulances were to their location by the sound.

"Finally, a neighbor heard the sirens and said 'Something's wrong because we just keep hearing sirens in every direction and they are not going anywhere,'" rescuer Geanne Evans said. "So she came outside and heard screams for help and that's how we actually got the final location."

Once located, the injured teen was carried by six rescuers a quarter of a mile through narrow, rugged terrain.

The teen was medivaced to Hahnemann University Hospital with a serious concussion. She was reportedly alert and conscious, but was held at the hospital for evaluation.
