Business Soars For Ocean City Airplanes

If you've been looking for high exposure at the Jersey shore this summer then all you had to do was look up.
For the past 14 years, High Exposure Aerial Advertising has been flying over the beaches of Ocean City, Maryland to the Hamptons in New York touring 100 foot-long commercials in the sky.
On Labor Day, they've been looking back on a soaring summer.
"It's a great summer, what started out on Memorial Day weekend with awesome weather, one of the Memorial Day weekend's we've had great weather and we're finishing up here Labor Day weekend again with great weather," Dave Dempsy said.
From the grassy runway in Egg Harbor Township High Exposure's eight airplanes fly aerial ballets from tail hook grab followed by hours in the air and then the message comes falling down.
Like an aerial assembly line it starts all over again. Nearly a dozen pilots with a front row seat, a few hundred feet above people.
"It's a pretty way to spend the summer. It's a great office. It's the best office in the world," Pilot Luke Weyhmuller said.
It's not all business, besides commercial messages the planes play cupid from a thousand feet up.
"We probably do wedding proposals, at least two a week and then you mix in the other personals probably somewhere around a half a dozen a week of them," Dempsy said.
But even summer vacation can get the tourist to think about the serious side of life, where there are no beaches.
"It's the Newark Teacher's Union about the three kids that were killed up in Northern Jersey behind the school so they were flying a banner trying to generate awareness," Dempsy said.
And generating awareness is what High Exposure is all about. They get people to look up by taking the mufflers off the airplane. During the winter the planes head south to fly over their beaches.
