Healthy Schools Honored With National Award
LANGHORNE, Pa. (CBS 3) ―
Neshimany Middle
School in Langhorne,
Pa. was honored among 43 other
schools nationwide for their efforts in becoming a healthier school.
Former President Bill Clinton was at the William J. Clinton center in Little Rock, Arkansas
speaking on behalf of The Alliance for a Healthier Generation to honor the
schools recognized nationally.
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a
joint venture between the William
J. Clinton
Center and the American
Heart Association, is aimed at creating a comprehensive program that encourages
healthy environments for schools.
Hundreds of schools participate in the healthy schools program designed provide
access to healthier foods in cafeterias as well as increase physical education
and activities.
In the United States,
12 million children and teens are obese, and more than 23 million children and
teens are either overweight or obese.
