Chester County Teen Struck By Lightning

WEST NANTMEAL, Pa. (CBS 3) ― A Chester County teen is fighting for her life after being struck by a bolt of lightning outside her family home Tuesday.

Emily Crikelair, 19, was outside her father's home in West Nantmeal when she was indirectly struck by lightning. The bolt initially struck a nearby tree and jumped to the teen.

"They told me she stepped out the back door, there was a crack of lightning and that was it," said neighbor Jim McGinnis.

She was struck in the midsection and suffered major damage to her heart and burns to her chest.

Crikelair was initially transported to Brandywine Hospital, but was later transferred to Crozer-Chester Medical Center where she remains in critical condition. Officials said she has been responding to questions by blinking.

The teen had recently finished her freshman year at a New York college, where she is studying Pre-Med. Here father, Reverend Paul Crikelair, works at the Good Will M.E. Church, a short distance from the family's home. He had recently been transferred and the family was set to move next week.

The teen had been helping her father pack just before the lightning strike.
