Del. Teacher Charged With Rape Of Former Student

CAMDEN, Del. (AP) ― An elementary school teacher from Felton has been arrested and charged with rape after having sex with a former student.

Thirty-four-year-old Christopher Lehto was arrested Thursday and charged with fourth-degree rape by a person in a position of trust, authority or supervision.

The charge involves an alleged April incident involving a 17-year-old high school student in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart shopping center.

Lehto is an art teacher at Star Hill Elementary School, and police say the alleged victim is one of his former students.

Detectives learned of the alleged relationship Monday, when a friend of the alleged victim told her mother and the mother contacted state police.

Authorities say the girl confirmed that she and Lehto had engaged in a sexual act while parked at the Camden Wal-Mart, and that she previously had met him for lunch.
