Wildwood Kicks Off Season During Holiday Weekend
WILDWOOD, N.J. (CBS 3) ―
Easter weekend usually marks the "unofficial"
start to tourism season for the Morey's Piers boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ and
despite the laboring economy, this year was no different.
Droves of people turned up on the brisk Sunday morning to
hunt for Easter Eggs and take a picture with the big bunny.
"We come down every year," said Stefanie Gorman.
"Rainy, cold it doesn't matter, we still come down and the kids have a
ball."
This year the kids weren't the only ones having a ball as
the vendors along the 'walk' welcome the crowds and even saw a rise in traffic
from previous years.
"People are still coming, people still want to have fun
with their families," said Chris Pohle, owner of Lime Ricky World. "It's
a strong weekend for Wildwood. It's a bigger year than I think it was last year,
so far we're having a better start"
In addition to the opening celebration being a hit, news that
amusements would be returning to Sea
Isle City
could also bring smiles to the faces of beach goers and merchants as well.
On Tuesday it was announced that Sea Isle City will once more have amusements for children.
According to the Gillian family, who owns and operates
Wonderland Pier in Ocean
City, amusements will be
operating at the foot of the bridge on JFK Blvd, rides will be set up and
supposedly ready for Memorial Day Weekend.
