Drexel Record Label Starting To Rock
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―
A
five-year-old college record label is starting to pick up steam at Philadelphia's Drexel
University.
MAD Dragon Records has started to emerge,
especially with some releases from notable artists including the Swimmers, the
Redwalls and Hoots and Hellmouth.
At a school more known for engineering and
technology, Drexel's music industry program is an emerging gem. Officials say
it's also one of the most selective programs at the university.
What makes the program unusual is a deal with
Ryko Distribution that MAD Dragon CEO Marcy Rauer Wagman helped secure in 2005.
The label's big coup was signing The Redwalls. The group of promising Chicago rockers had been dropped by Capitol Records. MAD Dragon released the band's self-titled
CD in October.
