66 Dogs Recovered In Kennel Raid
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
The Pennsylvania SPCA recovered 66 dogs Friday afternoon
from the condemned
Limestone
Kennels in Cochranville, Upper Oxford
Township, Pa.
The kennel
was shut down following an investigation by the Pennsylvania SPCA and the
Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement. John Blank, the kennel's owner, was forced to
surrender the dogs following a guilty plea of eight counts of animal cruelty
and two violations of the state's Dog Law.
The seized
dogs were taken to the PSPCA veterinary hospital
where they will be evaluated
for the possibility of adoption.
"More than
100 animals have escaped the horrors of life at a puppy mill and are on their
way to better lives with loving adoptive families," said PSPCA CEO Howard
R. Nelson.
On July 17,
PSPCA humane agents removed 23 dogs from the Limestone Kennels; those dogs were
transported to the SPCA headquarters and are undergoing evaluation.
Blank, who
also pled guilty to one summary charge of harassment, sold a three-week old
Yorkshire terrier puppy to an undercover PSPCA agent. The legal age for selling
puppies in Pennsylvania
is seven weeks. That died due to dehydration, hypothermia and emaciation
prompting the animal authorities to raid the facility.
