Blogs Offer Look Into Lancaster Teens' Lives
LITITZ, Pa. (AP) ―
Her main interests were "JESUS!," soccer and "having partys OH YEAH BABY." He was preoccupied with his new computer system, his hairstyle and deer hunting.
The Web postings were made by 18-year-old David G. Ludwig and 14-year-old Kara Beth Borden before Sunday, when Ludwig allegedly killed Borden's parents inside their Lititz home, then fled the state with her.
Their Web sites list their favorite thingsboth included candy and she was among those who responded when he recently posted about his haircut.
"Yes your hair is flipping long. And I like it," she wrote.
Ludwig posted dozens of self-portraitsincluding some posing with what looks like a swordand 20 images labeled "Hunting 2004" in which he and other teenage boys hold up beer bottles and grin beside the carcasses of freshly killed deer.
With the enthusiasm of a young teenager, Kara gushed three weeks ago about a recent soccer game"ET made an amazing goal! go you! izy played awesome!!" Her other interests include her church, youth group, family and dog.
Although some friends say the two were secretly dating, police have not clarified the nature of their relationship or said whether they know if Kara was kidnapped or left willingly with Ludwig after the slayings.
Neighbors say the two met through a home-schoolers' group. They live a short drive from each other on opposite sides of Lititz, a 9,000-resident borough in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, an hour west of Philadelphia.
Before police caught up to them in Indiana on Monday, Kara had last been seen wearing a shirt that advertised Pillar, a Christian music band. Just last month, Ludwig posted to his site the lyrics to "And the Rest Will Follow" by the Christian band Project 86:
"You want me to put it on the line/And give yield to you this time/See but I won't compromise and I realize/It's my time to rise."
He described himself as a student in the medical field, saying his interests included spending money, "pulling stupid pranks, having soft air gun wars" and claimed expertise in computers, volleyball, movies and "getting in trouble."
Isaac Gregory Heesen, a 14-year-old boy from Columbia, Pa., met Kara through a drama group he participated in with her older sister. He described Kara as "outgoing" and "very strong."
"Her sister, Katelyn, was saying she was kind of being rebellious lately and she has some of the wrong friends," Heesen said Monday. "She was kind of going away from her family or parents or whatever, and not being right with the Lord."
Skyler Jones, 15, a friend who lives near Kara, described her as popular and recalled a day two summers ago when their fun together included jumping on a trampoline, eating cookies and running around in a rainstorm.
She said Michael F. and Cathryn Lee Borden, Kara's deceased parents, were "the nicest people I've ever met" and
doubts that Kara would have left with Ludwig willingly.
"The way I knew her, she was very smart and she was like an amazing friend," she said. "She's very Christian and I would have never thought any of this would happen."
