Residents are beginning to return home after a massive apartment fire in
Conshohocken last Wednesday.
Those who returned to their apartments were relieved to find minimal damage
and were just happy to have left unharmed.
"It's kind of relieving to get back in here and see that nothing was damaged
for me. It's hard to drive through here and see all the other building that
were so nice, and now they're gone," said apartment owner, John Daly.
The Riverwalk Complex fire displaced nearly 400 people and destroyed two
buildings.
Several tenants lost more than a couple nights in the safety of their own
home.
"I am one of the lucky ones. My apartment was OK. Some people lost
everything," said returning tenant, Rachel Danahy.
The two heavily damaged buildings are being demolished.
Officials believe the blaze started from a torch that was left unattended by a
welder at an adjacent construction site. The developer confirms at least one
torch was on the job site last Wednesday.
Damages are estimated between $50 and $80 million dollars.
