Shoplifting Ring Broken Up In Camden
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) ―
Authorities in Camden County say they have broken up a shoplifting ring that took millions of dollars of merchandise from stores over at least five years.
Camden County Prosecutor Warren Faulk says the organizers were owners and employees at several Camden bodegas.
They're accused of giving a crew of drug addicts daily "shopping lists" to tell them exactly what to steal from chain stores like CVS and Target in southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
The stolen items were not peddled at the mom-and-pop shops but rather sold in bulk to larger operations. Prosecutors say they're still trying to sort out how that part of the scheme worked.
Eight people were charged in connection to the case this week.
