Burglars Target Numerous Burlington Co. Towns
SOUTHAMPTON, N.J. (CBS 3) ―
Police in several Burlington County towns are investigating a rash of recent home burglaries.
A total of 15 home burglaries have occurred in broad daylight since the beginning of the year.
The towns burglarized include: Hainesport (4), Mt. Laurel (3), Tabernacle (2), Lumberton (2), Bordentown (2), Southampton (1), and Moorestown (1).
Police arrested four suspects during an attempted burglary in Bordentown on Thursday.
"We uncovered multiple screwdrivers and chisels out of their vehicle that would be used to pry open doors of residences," said Sgt. Brian Pesce of the Bordentown Township Police Department. "The walkie talkies, a .380 Beretta, fully loaded handgun, we have uncovered a large quantity of jewelry."
Investigators said the suspects are after jewelry and cash. In one Mt. Laurel burglary, $13,000 in jewelry was stolen.
Detectives said the crooks gain entry through back doors and windows, only after making sure no one is home by knocking on the front door.
Sgt. Pesce believes all of the burglaries could be related.
"We've already been speaking to those agencies and we're not ruling anything out, we've already connected this group to burglaries in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, so it's a possibility."
Police have stepped up patrols and are urging residents to be vigilant.
