The Early Life Of Philadelphia's 'Bonnie'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― The story of two Philadelphia college students charged with identity theft made national headlines. Jocelyn Kirsch and Edward Anderton quickly became known as the modern day "Bonnie and Clyde."

Police said they were living the high life, and stooping low enough to put it all on their neighbors' tab.

CBS 3 is taking an exclusive look at the life of Jocelyn Kirsch, otherwise known as Bonnie in the pair. She's accused of stealing identities.

Former friends say they're not surprised. They tell us she could never find her identity in high school.

Living in the lap of luxury until luck ran out for Jocelyn Kirsch and Edward Anderton, Philadelphia's so-called Bonnie and Clyde, charged with stealing identities and more than a hundred thousand dollars.

There are two Jocelyn Kirsches … the one who hid from cameras as she turned herself in, and the one who could not get enough of the camera, until her mug shot.

"She deserved it. I'm not going to pretend to be on some kind of high horse, like I didn't get some enjoyment from seeing her mug shot - because I did. Because she hurt people that I cared about," said Kate Agnelli, former high school friend.

"How stupid could you be to think that you were going to get away with something like that?"

CBS 3 traveled to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to see if Jocelyn's past showed signs of a troubled future.

"Anybody who went to school with her was not friends with her. She burned her last bridge after she graduated from high school," said Agnelli.

Like her friendship with classmate Anna Love.

Jocelyn allegedly had broken into the Love's home when they were on vacation – living there, and even wearing Anna's clothes. She then reportedly crashed her car through the garage door.

Police were not involved. If there is one thing everyone we spoke to agrees on, it's that she is clever. We spoke with a former teacher.

"She's a sharp, very outgoing person, I guess it's definitely a shock, " said David Small, former teacher.

Jocelyn started off as a typical student in high school. She was in service clubs, track and field and the drama club. But friends say she took her acting beyond the stage.

"She was a good liar and you name it she probably lied about it at some point," said Agnelli.

Some say she even lied about the color of her eyes.

"She doesn't have purple eyes. She has brown eyes and she wore purple contacts since she was 15 trying to convince people she had purple eyes," continued Agnelli.

In high school Jocelyn had jobs at the mall, Starbucks and a water park where friends say she told people she was from South Africa.

She grew up most of her life in a comfortable house. Her father is a prominent plastic surgeon who did not what to talk to us.

"I have nothing to say, thank you," he said when we approached him.

Surrounded by money, a seemingly good family and a good education, many are wondering what went wrong. Detectives can only guess, but point to one destructive combination.

"Arrogance and greed and they got caught," said one detective.

Sources tell CBS 3 that the Feds are now looking at the case and will end up taking it over.

A court date scheduled for next week for the couple will be continued because of the pending federal investigation.
