Best Beauty Products

by Stephanie Abrams
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Last year, Americans spent approximately $48-billion on beauty products. Some you love, others end up just packing your drawers and are a waste of money. CBS 3's Stephanie Abrams has the results of a new study that picks out the best of beauty.

Glowing skin, plumper lips and shiny hair are some of the types of perfection promised in so many beauty products.

"I just feel like I'm not dressed if I don't put my lipstick on in the morning," one woman said.

With so many types of makeup and moisturizers to choose from, it's hard to know where to find those treasures, which is why Self magazine sifted through more than a thousand products to find some beautiful bargains.

"The winners ranged in price from a dollar to $132, so there's really something for everyone," said Elaine D'Farley of Self Magazine.

Clarin's True Comfort Light Reflecting Foundation was a hit for its sheer coverage.

This year glowing skin is in. Jergen's Natural Glow Face keeps you bronzed for only seven-dollars.

To go with that hint of tint, why not plump up that pout too?

"The one from Victoria's Secret was the winner because it really made women feel very voluptuous," D'Farley said.

Neutrogena's Lip Soothers kept lips moisturized. The winners for eye-popping results, Estee Lauder's Eye Shadow Quad and Cover Girl's Lash Exact Mascara.

"They have a new molded brush and that's the key to that product," said D'Farely.

Don't forget to wash it all off with Dove's new anti-aging cleanser called Energy Glow.

White Rain's Water Blossom was voted the best all around shampoo and it only costs one-dollar.

"We tested new shampoos from designers and that were much more expensive and this is the one that everyone loved," D'Farley said.

They are all great recommendations, but you really have to try it on for yourself to see which product will make you look and feel your best.

The magazine also lists winners for things like sunscreen body scrubs and hair conditioners. Out of 1,174 products tested by 1,300 testers, 78 winners were chosen. Click here for the complete list of Self Magazines picks.
