Teachers at a private Jewish day school in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania have gone on strike.
Faculty at the Barrack Hebrew Academy, a private school on the Main Line for grades six through 12, hit the picket lines Monday after working without a contract since the beginning of the school year.
The teacher's union says pension contributions are the main reason last week's negotiating session went south:
"It broke down when they decided to take away at least 50 percent of the contributions they make toward our pension."
School administrators in a statement said they have offered "as generous a compensation package as (their) stretched finances permit."
Classes and activities for the school's 315 students have been cancelled for the week.
