Anti-Aaron McKie Flyers Found In Gladwyne

GLADWYNE, Pa. (CBS 3) ― An anti-Aaron McKie flyer was placed in the mailboxes of homes in Gladwyne a week after the former 76ers star was arrested on weapons violation charges.

The letter read: "Attention please, read if you care about your neighborhood!!! How can we prevent Aaron McKie from moving into our safe and peaceful neighborhood. His house is almost complete on Youngsford Road. Let's prevent another Iverson from moving in!"

Authorities claim McKie misrepresented himself on two forms when he purchased two handguns from a Willow Grove gun dealer last April. He was arrested on June 23.

District Attorney Risa Furman said McKie did not disclose that he had a protection from abuse order when applying for a weapon, an error that is considered a felony offense.

Prosecutor's say the 35-year-old, who played eight seasons with the Sixers, was the subject of a protection from abuse order, obtained by the mother of one of his children allegedly involving verbal threats made by the star, a condition that would ban him from obtaining weapons permits.

McKie, also a former star at Temple University, is currently in the process of building a home in Gladwyne. The "Iverson" line in the letter is a reference to former 76ers star Allen Iverson whose legal troubles years ago turned his Gladwyne home into a media circus for weeks.

Many of the residents in the ritzy and wealthy Main Line neighborhood are angered by the disturbing letter.

"Give the guy a chance, judge each person on their individuality, that's what I say," resident Helen Barker said.

According to police, whoever placed the letters in the mailboxes committed a crime because they were not post-stamped.
