Apple iPhone Tops T-Mobile G1 In Performance
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ―
The Apple iPhone is certainly one of the hottest new phones. But Google's T-Mobile G1 phone is a tough competitor. So which one is best for you?
Move over iPhone. There's a new smart phone in the neighborhood.
"For those tech-savvy people, there's a new smart phone on the market: The T-Mobile G1. The operating system it runs on is the android market, which was created by Google, which is why it is referred to as a Google phone. We ran tests by both consumers as well as the lab to see how the two phones sized up against each other. Overall the iPhone outperformed the Google phone. It has a larger screen, larger internal memory, and consumers generally found it easier to use," said Rachel Rothman with Good Housekeeping.
"It's so easy to locate all of the different programs. There's an icon and the word underneath," said Good Housekeeping tester, Amy Roberts.
"But the Google phone does have some advantages. It has a full physical keypad, which people found much easier to type on," said Rothman.
"Even though it was a little difficult for me to find the text messaging icon, it was much easier for me to type," said Good Housekeeping tester, Christina Peterson.
So the bottom line, get the G1 if you need a keyboard and want to save a few bucks. But go for the iPhone if you're all about performance and comfort.
Good Housekeeping says the Google phone is much thicker and heavier than the iPhone, something to keep in mind. Also, the Google phone has a 3 megapixel camera and the iPhone has a two megapixel camera.
