YOUR STORY: Remember when the Phillies won the Pennant in '93 and the World Series in '80? Share your memories now! : In 1980 my Grandmom was 83 yrs old. Since she was blind Gmom would listen to EVERY (and I mean EVERY) Phillies game on her portable radio. She loved hearing Whitey's voice!! She had been doing this from when the team was called the "A's" or Athletics (?). Well, the night TUG MCGRAW helped clinch the World Series for us - my Gmom and I stood outside on our porch banging pots/pans and hollering at the top of our lungs!! We then walked a block over to Rt 611 and took in all the glory of fans everywhere honking horns, high fiving (Even Gmom was getting high fives!!) I'm so glad she got to experience the win but sadly she didn't get to hear about her fav Phillies hitting his 500th homer - Mike Schmidt of course, but she was there in spirit just as I know she is smiling right now and cheering on her team. GO PHILLIES, GMOM IS WATCHING!!

now! : My family had two tickets for Game 6 in the 1980 World Series. My dad
brought our family of 5 and we picked up three seats from a scalper outside the
stadium. The Phils took control of the game early and held off the Royals down
the stretch. The roar when Tug McGraw struck out Willie Wilson was awesome! We
then drove home honking our horn and high-fiving fans outside the car. When we
got home we joined our neighbors who were having a party celebrating the win.
I'll never forget that night!

Phillies won the National League series. Our reception did not start on time
because people would not leave their cars because they were listing to the game
on the radio and those that were in the hall would not leave the bar because the
game was on the TV. We left for our honeymoon the next day to Disney World, Fl.
and I had to watch the world series the whole week. We got back on the following
Sunday and went to the Parade on Monday. My husband has no excuse to ever forget
our anniversary.

YOUR STORY: In 1993, I was fortunate enough
to have tickets for games 3 and 4 of the World Series. We sat through the rain
delay of game 3 and the drizzle/mist of game 4. All of the runs scored in that
unfortunate 15-14 loss! To me, it was one of the best times in my life. We had
just celebrated the birth of our daughter in March of 1993 and now the Phillies
were in the World Series. It was in our eyes, it was a once in a life time
opportunity for the two of us to see a World Series together. Little did we
know how true 'once in a life time' has become. This World Series for me is
bittersweet, as I lost my wife of 20 years 2 years ago to cancer. We both loved
baseball and watched so many games together. We have passed down our love of
the game to our now 15 year old daughter. I do wish she was here with us for
this World Series.

: When the Phillies were playing for the Pennant in 1993, my sister Nereda
Rodriguez and I sang the National Anthem for the game on Labor day 1993. In
September of 1992, The then Mayor Rendell and his wife had heard us sing at the
Philadelphia Puerto Rican Festival Banquet. They liked our rendition so much that
they asked if we had sung it for the Phillies. We said no and he said we should
write and ask to sing at one of their games. On the Friday before Labor Day
1993, I got a call asking if we could sing for the Phillies on Monday, Labor
Day. We were so thrilled! It was an absolutely fantastic experience and we
loved every minute of it, I can't even imagine what it would be like to sing
for them now! We wish the Phillies every ounce of luck and good wishes and we
will be in Philadelphia
when they win the World Series!

father took us to the Vet, where I fell asleep before the winning pitch (I was
5). What makes that moment ominous, however, is that they showed me asleep on
the Fanavision. In 1993, I was in the Navy and had the opportunity to hold the
American Flag with the color gaurd for the Series National Anthem. They actually
gave me a ticket and I sat next to Mitch Williams hot wife...

YOUR STORY: Remember when the Phillies won the Pennant in '93 and the
World Series in '80? Share your memories now! : I was at both of the winning
games. For the World Series in 1980 I took my late Uncle Dominic to the game. He
absolutely loved the Phillies. I remember when we won and everyone was jumping
up and down and hugging and kissing each other. My Uncle stood there with tears
coming down his face he was so happy. The party continued on for hours. As I
tried to get my car out of the parking lot and drive my Uncle to his South
Philly home, the fans were all over Broad Street and they practically overturned
my car. My Uncle told me he was having the best time of his life and I agreed it
was for me also. For the Pennant in 1993 I took my eight year old daughter
Elizabeth. As a single mom I gave my daughter the choice that we could either go
to the game or I could sell the tickets and we could go on a vacation. Well my
daughter made the right decision. We went to the game and they won. It was a
great time that we will always remember.

any of the games live. Mainly because of the time difference. In 1983, still in
Germany with the Army. really don't remeber much about that year. In 1993, I was
again in, you guessed it, Germany with the Army. I was able to watch most of the
games, especially the one where they lost the series with the "Wild Thing" on
the mound. I was screaming at the TV, really Francona, asking why the "Wild
Thing". Then getting yelled by my then wife, because I was too loud and could
wake the baby up. Again, the time difference. It was a struggle getting up the
next morning. Now, I am back home and loving it. Not going to any of the games
but, I will still enjoy every minute of it. I might need a pacemaker by the time
it's all over but, I will enjoy everything about it.

Share your memories now! : Yep, I was 10 at the time. I remember when they
won it all in "80". They had to go into Montreal the final weekend to take the
division, I also remember "Tugger" striking out Willie Wilson. In 1993 my dad
and I went to Playoff game 1 where Kim Batiste had the game winning RBI and
World Series game 5 where Curt Schilling struck out the first five batter he
faced and won that night. I still believe if we had one game six we could have
won the series. These were great moments win and lose. These days I go to a lot
of games with my dad, so here's hoping for one more trip to the glory.

was around in the late 70's to see the resurgence of the Phillies franchise but
sadly died in 1979 never to see them win a world series. So when they did in
1980 I naturally thought of him first and always think of him when the Phillies
are knocking on the door of a championship.

YOUR STORY: Remember when the Phillies won the Pennant in '93 and
the World Series in '80? Share your memories now! : I'm always enthusiatic
about all of Philly's sports teams, but nothing can compare to my love for our
Phillies. This relationship goes back a long way. You see, I was born and raised
at 2918 N. 20th Street in North Philadelphia. This was about 1 1/2 blocks from,
what was then, Shibe Park. You youngsters under 50 out there will remember it as
Connie Mack Stadium. We lived there until I was ten years old. Belive me when I
tell you that when you're ten years old, and growing up in the fifties, there
was nothing compared to living close to a Major League ballpark that was home to
two professional ball teams, not one. In those days, Pro Football, Basketball
and Pro Hockey were, in no way as popular as they've become. Baseball was
America's Pastime and the dominate sport by all measure. (By the way, the Eagles
played at Shibe Park too, before moving on to Franklin Field.) The Shibe stadium
schedule planner must have been a genius because the A's were on the road for
the Phillies home games and vice versa. Of course the way both teams were
drawing in the mid fifties, the fans of both teams could have been present at
once, and there would still be about 29,000 seats left over. Not saying how old
I am, I once shook hands with Connie Mack as he was getting out of a limo (at
20th & Lehigh Ave.)coming into the old ballpark for an oldtimers game in
1954 or 55. My Phillies idols, "Whitey and Robbie" never failed to say hello to
us kids waiting outside the park whenever they walked in. Remember, there were no
parking lots. Everyone did their best to find a spot on a nearby street, so we
got to see our heros, up close and personal. "Hard to belive Harry," but some
player back then, actually got off of the streetcar (that's trolley for you
young'ins) carrying their bags. My Dad, who lived in the neighborhood when he
was a boy, told stories of the Yankee's team bus pulling up at Shibe to play the
A's and Babe Ruth would pull up (considerably later than the rest), in a limo or
cab, with his tuxedo on, carrying his spikes, and his uniform slung over his
shoulder. He had been out all night. My friends and I would wait with our
gloves, on the sidewalks on 20th street, waiting for a home run ball to come
over the right field wall. During the first 10 years of my life I ran down four.
Three by the Phillies, and one by the A's. Dad said that when it was announced
over the P.A. System that Ruth was up, they didn't stand in 20th street but went
two steets past, over Garnett Street to Opal Street, 'cause that's where the
ball would come down when the Babe hit one. The A's left town in 1954, Well
needless to say, I lived and breathed Phillies pride, even though there wasn't a
lot to cheer about in those days. The wonderful stadium guards and Philadelphia
policemen assigned to the ballpark would open these gigantic steel roll-up doors
and let us kids in for free during the 4th or 5th innings. I'm forever grateful
to them. They helped contribute to these fond memories that I've kept all these
years. Those gatekeepers allowed me to see names like Mantle, Williams, Mays,
Aaron, Matthews, Newcomb, Campanella, Reese, Sphan, Burdette, Buhl, Gibson, even
local home run king and fan favorite, Del Ennis. Some of those names may not
mean anything to youger folks, but believe me you had to be there. In 1961, the
Phillies and I lived through a losing streak that lasted 23 games in a row. They
looked like they might not win another game ever. We watched Phillies "stars"
(?)come and go through the late fifties and early '60s. Ted Kasanski (2nd base),
pop-up Pancho Herrera a 340 lb. first baseman. The no-hit, no field
shortstop-Chico Fernandez, received in a trade with Detroit. Joe Koppe (who?),
and Gene Freese at third base. A guy at first known as "Dr. Strangeglove." We
wept when they traded Whitey to the Cubs and gave us a new centerfielder named
Don Landrum, who they were billing as the next Ashburn. Not hardly! The collaspe
of 1964, with the little General in command,..I don't want to ruin a nice day by
even thinking of that! I finally get to my point that the 1980, '83 and '93
Phillies will outright own our baseball hearts forever. Lefy, the Tugger, Bowa,
Schmidt, Luzinski, Maddox, Rose, Boone, and later "the Dude," "Inky" "the
Sarge," and "Mitch Poo" are guys that we look at as part of our families. But
our 2008 Phillies, wow!! If ever there was a deserving bunch of pros, who take
the business of baseball seriously, they're it. They work like a fine tuned
pieces of machinery, yet seem to enjoy themselves tremendously while continuing
their winning ways. THEY NEVER GIVE UP! And if, by chance, they lose a game,
they start right back in tomorrow as if yesterday never happened. You can't put
a price on that. I sat through quite a few games this summer at the beautiful
"Bank." In mid-September I noticed a look of confidence on the faces of these
players. Even though some individuals may have periodically slumped, they had a
knowing look that someone in this lineup would come through when needed to pick
them up. And did they ever. I was to the first game of the 1980 World Series,
which, up to now, had been my most exiting moment of following the Phillies. The
LCS against Houston made the World Series seem anti-climatic. I believe the
World Series opening night pitcher was Marty Bystrom (I think. I must confess to
some senior moments these days). However, absolutely nothing can compare with
being present at Game 2 of the LDCS this year when we sent Sabathia packing.
This Phillies team, expecially their depth, is the best that I've ever seen in
all my years of loving baseball. After years of attending games at Shibe/Connie
Mack and the Vet, it still boggles my mind at how beautiful this place is. The
Phillies and the City did everything right. The final touch is that the
franchise and facility are now blessed with the greatest "Phans" (of any sport),
in the entire world. So, it's only fitting that this 2008 team of ours deserves
their due, in such a beautiful place to play. The real "grit" shown by
Victorino, Hammels, Myers, with a special salute to Pat Burrell (who carried
this team early on and unlike some superstars-never complains),to Rollins and
Howard, who have contributed with thrills all year, to Carlos Ruiz, who handled
the pitching staff like he was Yogi Berra or Roy Campenella in their prime, and
their manager Charlie, under difficult circumstances, and to one of the most
effective coaching staffs this town has ever seen, tell the story of what this
team is all about. To Dave Montgomery, Pat Gillick, Rueben Amaro Jr., Mr.
Arbuckle, Dallas Green and yeah Bill Giles, you too, 'ya did us proud. I watched
the final game of the 1980 World Series sitting on my living room floor of our
Somerton home, with my seven year old son. Watching the celebration in the
clubhouse (seeing "Whitey', Harry and "Wheels" doused with champagne), tears
started to glisten in my eyes. My son said, "Daddy, are you crying?" I said,
"yes son, and some day you'll understand." He's thirty-five now. A few days ago
he said to me, "Dad, I understand now." Lets hope that in this World Series the
Phils will deliver what they surely are capable of, and continue making more
wonderful memories for all of us. They'll become, what they already are to us,
the best team in baseball. Go Phils!!

STORY: Remember when the Phillies won the Pennant in '93 and the World Series in
'80? Share your memories now! : With the final out of the PHillies / Astros
series in 1980, I decided to drive my three younger siblings - we lived in East
Norriton then -to Veterans Stadium so that we could get tickets for the World
Series. It was 1am and I remember wrapping a yellow blanket around my 9 year old
brother, Michael. My 12 year old brother , Frank , and my sister, Marisa, were
dropped off at the Vet and stayed in line all throughout the night and day and
were able to purchase tickets for Game 1 of the World Series so that we could
go!! With little sleep, I went to work. I taught elementary classroom music at
Willow Dale Elementary School in Centennial School District. My third graders
were having music class that afternoon and I decided to ditch the lesson plan in
my planbook have them write songs about the Phillies going to the World Series.
I called several PHilly TV news stations and told them what my students did.
That afternoon, I approached my principal, Dr. Larry Belli, and told him of my
plan. He said, "Agnes, you're too cute but they won't come." My response, "Just
wait and see!" The next morning I am in my classroom early getting ready for my
music classes. All of a sudden , I heard over the loudspeaker: "Miss Tranzill,
please call the front office!" When I called, Dr. Belli informed me that CBS 3 (
I think that it was either KYW or WCAU )called and wanted to tape the children
singing their PHillies' songs. I was euphoric! Classes were switched, the
children came early with their teachers and I asked Dr. Belli to stay for moral
support. It was either Trudy Haynes or Edie Huggins who did the piece and my
third graders were on TV that night - the first game of the World Series . My
third graders would be about 36 years old now and I always think of them with
fondness during the World Series, particularly when our beloved Phillies are in
it. Life is about creating memories and I hope that my third graders of 1980
have fond memories of their "TV experience" as our beloved PHIllies are , once
again, in the World Series! As of this moment, they could be sharing their
Phillies memories with their own children! And, a neat experience I had when the
Phillies went to the World Series in 1983. I took my brother Michael - he was 12
then - to the Vet to get tickets for the World Series. Once we arrived, there
was only one person ahead of us. AS soon as I got to the window to purchase the
tickets, the cashier pulled down her shade and SHUT the window! I banged on her
window - "You can't do that - I just drove in from Norristown!' I was truly
annoyed. Well, as Michael and I were walking to the car, the guy ahead of me
turned around and said, "Miss, I can't use these tickets. If you want , I'll
sell them to you!" Oh my God, I couldn't believe my ears! Talk about being in
the right place at the right time! And, so , I thanked this man a million times
and , once again, my siblings and I went to another World Series!

He gave me a 1980 World series baseball from it. It was his dream to see

YOUR STORY: Remember when the Phillies won the Pennant in '93 and the
World Series in '80? Share your memories now! : In 1980 I was a sophomore at
Lincoln HS in the NE. I was thrilled to go to the World Series parade especially
since my mom did not let me go to the Stanley Cup parade in '75 (good for her! I
was 11!). Little did I know it would be such a long wait for another Philly
Championship! In '93 I was lucky enough to be at the NLCS WINNING Game. Years
later, I was working at the SportsRadio station in town and got to meet John
Kruk and Mitch Williams who autographed the Inquirer Picture and my ticket stub
from '93. They were the nicest guys (well, Kruk did sign the over Darren
Daulton's butt!) Of course, I also sadly remember watching, from good 'ole
Market Street Live, the Blue Jays take the series from us. This Philly girl,
born and raised, moved to Upstate NY over a year ago, making me more of a Philly
fan than ever! (You can take a girl out of Philly?) The Phils post-season this
year has been incredible. I'll be in town for game 4 and am hoping to be able to
call out sick and extend my stay to attend my first championship parade since
1980! GO PHILS!!!!!!!

YOUR
STORY: Remember when the Phillies won the Pennant in '93 and the World Series in
'80? Share your memories now! : I was in college in upstate New York in '93
and rooted for Toronto because I had never even been to Philly, and Toronto was
closer. In 1980 I was 7 years old and cheered on Houston because their uniforms
were bright and shiny. But ever since 1997, when I moved here, I have been a
die-hard Phillies fan. They're my first true hometown team, and I felt a passion
I never felt during my formative years in New York. Watching the city celebrate
and being part of the exuberance is something I'll cherish for my entire life...
and I think there may be an even bigger celebration in two weeks.

Share your memories now! : My husband and I had only been dating a year -
just barely engaged then. They won that night, I called his house, one of his
sisters answered, I started screaming, "The Phils won! Did you see it? The Phils
won!" Most of his family was out on "The Avenue" already - all of Mayfair and
Tacony was out on the Avenue that night. Now, 15 years later, married with
children - history repeats itself - except we watched the presidential debate
and also watched the Phils.
