Phils Looking For One More Win In NLCS
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
The Philadelphia
Phillies can secure a berth in the World Series with one more victory over the
Los Angeles Dodgers.
Dodgers manager Joe Torre decided to give his team a day
off after their Game 4 loss Monday.
No batting practice Tuesday. No infield,
either. Just some time away from the ballpark to rest and a few extra moments
for Torre to come up with something to say about a costly late-inning loss and
a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-seven series with Philadelphia.
He says "You don't get to this time of year
without the ability to win three, four, five games in a row."
The Dodgers are in a hole after pinch-hitter
Matt Stairs' two-out, two-run homer off Jonathan Broxton capped a four-run eighth
and sent the Phillies to a 7-5 victory.
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel took the
opposite approach, with his team swinging freely on a warm, sunny Los Angeles day.
History is on Philadelphia's side. Nine of the previous 11
teams to go up 3-1 went on to win the NLCS.
Chad Billingsley will start Wednesday night for the
Dodgers.
Game 1 winner Cole Hamels returns for the Phillies.
