Armstrong Turns To Web To Track Down Stolen Bike

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS) ― Residents are mortified after Lance Armstrong's time trial bike was stolen in Sacramento, and the famous cyclist is turning to the internet to track down his one-of-a-kind cycle, reports CBS station KOVR-TV in Sacramento.

"I'm a Sacramentan, and it's very embarrassing and very disappointing," said Katie Newell.

The Sacramento Police Department has been fielding calls ever since news of the theft made international headlines. "We got calls from as far away as France and the UK," said Sacramento Police spokesman Konrad Von Shoech.

On Facebook, people are joining a group called "A Million Citizens Looking for Lance Armstrong's Stolen Bike." On Twitter, Armstrong himself is offering a reward after posting a picture of his bike, valued at $15,000.

His time trial bike was one of four stolen out of a locked truck Saturday night near the downtown Marriott Residence Inn, according to Sacramento police. Armstrong had used the bike in the Amgen Tour of California Prologue in Sacramento, but says that he has a backup that he can use later in the race, if needed.

Authorities are optimistic they'll find the suspects based on surveillance video they already have and witnesses who have provided tips.

"It's a heavily populated area with businesses that do have surveillance systems, so we're hopeful multiple systems captured some part of this event," Von Schoech said.

Sacramento Police are also working to enhance video that shows the crime from a few blocks away.
