Thoughts/Memories : What an amazing man and an awesome memorial service. I
was glued to the t.v. most of this beautiful day watching the ceremonies with
tears (only b/c I thought the stadium would be too packed to get in by the time
I would get there. I think the family will never know how many people Harry
really touched and didn't make it to the Park but still mourned him the same. I
guess I was a HK snob b/c he was here as long as I was alive so I thought he was
always here. It was nice to learn so much more and so grateful Bill Giles
snagged him from Houston for us!!! We love you and miss you Harry!

Thoughts/Memories : Harry will truly be missed. My family and I are avid
die-hard Phillies fans, we were season ticket holders until my job took me to
North Carolina - although we got to see Phillies games they were not called by
Harry and we missed that. We visited the Phillies website and cherished the
clips of plays, and especially home run "outta heres" called by Harry. The
Phillies truly have lost their voice. Heaven now has the greatest broadcast team
now with Whitey and Harry together again.

watched and listened to Harry. He made the Phillies exciting even when they were
not doing so well. I remember being asleep or in another room and hearing
"You're Outta Here" brought a smile knowing that the Phillies hit a Home Run! I
have grown up respecting and loving him. I will miss him and the Home Run calls
will never be the same. Now I believe the Phillies have 2 guardian angels, Harry

Share Your Thoughts/Memories : I
need to share a Harry Kalas story and this seems to be the best place. Years ago
I was in a master's program for Instructional Technology. The class was in a
program called HyperCard, a precurser to Power Point. My project was taking a
book on African American History and making it interactive on the computer. One
of the individuals I chose was Hank Aaron. I had found video which I added to
the program but there was no sound. I wrote to Mr. Kalas, explaining what I was
doing and asked him to make a tape as if he was calling the play by play of Hank
Aaron's 715 homerun. A few weeks later I found a package in my mailbox. It was
the tape I sent along with a message "I hope you get an A". Mr. Kalas had
recorded the play by play for me. Sadly, I never got to meet Mr. Kalas to thank
him in person, although I did thank him by mail. He didn't have to do this for
me. From what I have heard and read, this was the kind of man he was. A very
rare individual indeed. Thank you Mr. Kalas, for the years you came into my home
on the radio and TV. For spoiling me for any other baseball announcers. And for
helping me with my project. And yes, I got an A.

Summer. Harry you will be missed and I Am so glad you were able to call the
World Series Championship before this tragic event and to die where you love to
be for so many years -in a ballpark. It just fitting that it happened in a

Phillies. Each of my wonderful Phils memories are narrated by the best, Harry
Kalas. My favorite moment was the Colorado tarp incident where Harry was
emotional in describing the class of the players who helped to opposing grounds
crew in that awful weather. I sent him a picture in spring training for his
autograph. Just as he did for all of his fans, he went above and beyond. I will
cherish this keepsake and the memories of Harry. Thank you, Harry - rest in

Thoughts/Memories : "If you build it, he will come" God has built a baseball
haven for Harry. He now joins Whitey in Heaven and as they did for many years
will call baseball games once again only this time on a field which will have
the likes of Shoeless Joe Jackson, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig,Jackie Robinson just to
name a few. Philadelphia has lost an icon. Whenever you think of the
Philadelphia Phillies Harry Kalas alway's came to mind first. Bobby Thompson hit
the shot heard around the world but Harry had the voice heard around the world.
I will forever remember his call on October 29th when Brad Lidge struck out
Hinske and we once again became World Champions of Baseball. We will alway's be
greatful and cherish the 38 years you gave us broadcasting Phillis games. Are
HOPES will be high again this season even though the VOICE is at peace. God
Bless to all of the Kalas family and Phillies Family.

Harry Kalas & that wonderful voice of his. He made you want to watch or

baseball again. He lived & died where he always loved to be. His voice may

condolences go out to the entire Phillies organization & the Kalas'

Fittingly, I was less than 2 miles from the ballpark when I heard the news,
riding the airport shuttle bus to my car. It came over the radio and we all were
stunned. I grew up with baseball, the Phillies, and Harry Kalas. The three were
always connected, from my first Phillies game in 1972, to the present. Listening
to Harry on the radio you could always tell from the tone of his voice once the
ball hit the bat, if it was going out...that home run call was immediately
recognizeable and unmistakeable. His quick response time in assessing the
destination of the batted ball was phenomenal. My lasting memory was when Harry
sent me a hand-written note after Whitey's death. I had written him encouraging
him not to retire from broadcasting, in light of his close friend's passing,
because he was the one whose broadcasts introduced me to baseball as a child and
was doing the same now with my own boy. Harry replied right away and also sent 2
photos he autographed of Whitey--"one for you and one for your son." Funny ,
when Whitey died we still had Harry to carry on his memory. But who will carry
on Harry's?

Share Your
Thoughts/Memories : Harry Kalas was a class act. A true Philadelphia legend.
A gentleman of the sport and one of my all time favorite broadcasters and the
second voice of NFL Films alongside another favorite of mine : John Facenda. (
In my mind of course) I was running around in diapers when he was in this town
or barely alive! But I loved watching those old films and hearing his voice
along with that great narration and delivery. That was Facenda. Harry Kalas was
like a painter. But he used his words to paint all of his strokes. There was
nobody that could call a home-run or strike out in baseball like Harry Kalas and
there never will be again. He was like the lead singer, who also was the
baritone, falsetto, his voice was like gold. He was the sixth man. It was hard
to watch a game without hearing Harry's voice. When I was watching some of the
games from last year. I would hesitate to watch if I didn't hear his voice in
the background and I would ask myself the question. " Hey! Wait. I'm not
watching this. Where's Harry at? I don't hear him. '' It was the anticipation of
hearing him say IT'S OUTTA HERE! That made me want to wait all night just to
hear him say that and the PHILLIES WIN and anything else he had to say ! Those
championships and games were memorable not only because the teams rose to the
occasion and kicked it up a notch to win it all. But the Kalas's voice added to
the frenzy. The stuff that dreams are made of ? I guess so. My condolences go
out to the Kalas family in their time of need. There are lots of memories here
and it is now time for us all to celebrate and cry tears of joy. Ashburn Alley
upstairs is now crowded. HARRY KALAS 1936-2009 Harry Kalas you're OUTTA HERE!
You just got your wings, baby! It's time for you to make those calls in the
field of dreams! Say hello to the Splendid Splinter for me and keep those pie in
the sky hopes alive for all of us!

and Inside the NFL. He was a true professional and a great man. It is a sad day
for all sports fans in the Philadelphia region and across the country -- no
matter what team you cheer for.

Share Your Thoughts/Memories : There will be no
words good enough to describe the impact Harry Kalas had on the Phillies
organization, the city of Philadelphia, the nation, or the long history of
baseball. He has the most recognizable voice in sports; it was the voice of an
angel. May God bless Harry, his family, Phillie nation, and the fans of
baseball. Too many Phillie family members have passed away in the last few years
and each have had their mark on the organization and the fans but none will be
remembered and celebrated more than Harry. We would have liked you to announce
one more WORLD SERIES but God had other plans! Now you're cheering on from up
above! God bless the entire nation! <3.

they should every time (at home) when a Home Run is hit play Harry's voice going
OUTA HERE HOME RUN!!!! I was there when they won the 1980 World Series me and my
Late Mother who was a HUGE Phillies fan. I had seats behind home plate when we
(my late parents)my sister also use to go back in the mid 70's to mid 80's and
the 7th inning stretch would turn around and wave to Harry and Richie. Like
someone said in these tributes he is with his buddy up there now calling the
games. I also use to let them know when it was our birthdays and many a time it
was announced on the radio or TV. One time when my late Mother was sick in the
hospital I had them wish her well (Harry and Richie) it made her day.. God Rest
his soul .....

Share Your Thoughts/Memories : About 7
years ago my son and I attended a Phillies game and as we were waiting at the
players entrance for autographs, Harry Kalas came by. He handed the security
guard a few tickets and told him to give them to someone who could use them. His
tickets were right behind homeplate about 15 rows back and we were the lucky
ones to get them for that game. During the seventh inning stretch we looked up
to Harry's booth and waved to him to thank him for the tickets. He pointed to us
and threw a bag of peanuts right to us. It was a perfect strike. My son and I
will talk about that forever. We talked to Harry a few times after that day and
he was always a perfect gentleman. He was always very kind to my son and went
out of his way to say hello. He will never be replaced and his voice will go on
forever. Although Harry has left us, he will always be in our Phillies hearts.
Thanks for all the wonderful homerun calls and we will remember you forever!

dad, uncle and my self sat in the section where the broadcast booth was and I
remember turning around in the 5th inning and seeing Harry up in the booth and
saying Hi to him really made my day. I can't believe that he is gone. My

lifelong Phillies fan, one of my father's small dreams since the mid-70's was to
have Harry Kalas say his name while announcing his birthday as Harry often did
during moments of no action in the game. For his 50th, I contacted The Phillies
and was just as excited as my dad was when Harry said it. No other voice could
have made that moment more special.

Thoughts/Memories : I'm hurting real bad now. I feel like somebody just took
my heart and tore it from out of my chest. I can't stop crying. I remember when
the PHILLIES won the championship in 83' and he made some of his famous calls
during the game; the 2009 championship was like going back in time and one of
the few times that you can recall hearing Queen's WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS being
played to a Philadelphia Team winning a championship. I couldn't be at the VET
but I ran back and forth from the TV downstairs to the middle of the street
yelling at the top of my voice. '' WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! WE'RE CHAMPIONS Now
PHILLY! WE'VE GOT ONE NOW and they can't take it way from us! We're champions,
now, baby!'' It was like magic it was better than the SIXERS win. It's nothing
in the world like baseball, apple-pie and Mom. I came back in and I could still
hear them cheering and commenting from the TV and some of the same kind of yells
from me were now echoing coming from all over the streets. Thanks Mr. Kalas
thanks for the memories. You will be missed.
