Beasley's Commentary: Eagles Put Down Revolt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Like the Fight Song says, "Fly Eagles Fly on the Road to Victory!" The Birds did it again! Like another famous song says, "The Road is long with many a winding turn". Their road to the playoffs was actually more like the Iditarod Trail. It started with this year's improbable birth into the playoffs and it continues with today's Wild Card Weekend victory. Another chapter in Eagles lore is born.
This win must taste like fresh meat to a starving Pilgrim. Donovan McNabb passed for 300 yards, again proving his worth to disgruntled fans. And Andy Reid placed all talk of new leadership in the shredder.
The Revolt put down.
There will not be a new Coach. There will not be a new Quarterback. Donovan will get the millions promised in his contract for next season with the satisfaction of watching the Villagers douse their torches and trudge apologetically home.
What a difference a Month makes.
Four weeks ago premature cries of dismay and dissatisfaction reverberated off the Sky Scrapers in downtown Philly. Tonight there is laughter and jubilation from private homes in Conshohocken to the bars and night spots of the City of Brotherly Love.
Fly Eagles Fly on the Road to Victory!
Merrill Reese painted another masterful word picture and Troy Aikman sang his reluctant praises to Donovan's talents. Whether you heard it on Radio or watched on TV, it was another night to remember in Philadelphia Sports History.
The Eagles beat a game and plucky Vikings Squad 26-14. They limited the NFL's rushing leader to just 83 yards. The Philadelphia Defense held the Minnesota Offense at bay allowing zero points in the second half. David Akers split the uprights four times on field goals totaling 170 yards. Westbrook and McNabb hooked up on a 71 yard screen play that was blocked better than the Cuban Missile Crisis or the Berlin Blockade.
Andy Reid out maneuvered his minions, Brad Childress and Leslie Frazier. It was like the Karate Kid trying to drop kick Mr.. Miyagi.
The Eagles consider themselves a team of destiny. They believe that the Stars are aligned and the Chicken feet and Tarot Cards tell a tale that ends in Tampa, site of the coming Super Bowl.
