Commentary: Jimmy Rollins Behaving Badly

Beasley Reece
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―

One of Philadelphia's most beloved players is tarnishing his own image less than one year after his greatest achievement. Jimmy Rollins was the toast of the town just a few months ago. MVP of the National League, Wanamaker Award winner and most cheered and revered at a City Hall pep rally on the way to the playoffs.

J-Roll is still on a roll but in a downhill direction.

The Phillies happy-go-lucky manager only has two rules; be on time and hustle. Already this season, Rollins has broken them both! What if Charlie Manuel had a third rule?  What if Uncle Charlie wanted his players to hustle, be on time, and avoid robbing a bank?  Rollins might be seen on surveillance video dressed up like the Joker in the Dark Knight demanding money in denominations no larger than twenties at a Citizens Bank!

Surely Jimmy hasn't caught a case of the big head.

Now Rollins is saying he's not in agreement with the Managers decision to punish him for being late. I know I can't show up at CBS3 at 6:31... After the Newscast... and not expect to be in big trouble.

It's a battle you can't win my man. Be on time and hustle!

Jimmy is a team leader. Leaders lead by example. His team is out of first place and recently had the dreaded closed door meeting. That's never a good sign. The manager feels his team is missing something; perhaps that something that powered them into the playoffs last year.

The surest way to find that little something is through quality leadership.

Two rules; hustle and be on time. Sounds simple enough.
