Flyers C Briere Out A Month With Groin Injury

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ― Philadelphia Flyers center Daniel Briere will be sidelined four to five weeks because of a severe groin strain.

Briere had already missed 15 games this season because of an abdominal injury and a groin pull. He has five goals and nine points in nine games this season.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said Wednesday the injury was "significant."

Briere left the Flyers' victory Tuesday night over Tampa Bay after the second period after missing the previous nine games because of a groin strain.

The Flyers thought after the game Briere might torn some scar tissue, but an MRI Wednesday showed the groin strain might have been the cause of his discomfort.

Briere had surgery Oct. 25 to fix a torn abdominal muscle and doctors expected him to miss three to four weeks. Instead, he returned only two weeks later.
