Delaware QB, Flacco Goes To Ravens In 1st Round

The Baltimore Ravens have gone for a quarterback with the 18th pick in the NFL draft, bypassing Michigan's Chad Henne and taking Joe Flacco from Delaware.

Flacco was a very big fish in a small pond, named the Colonial Athletic Association co-Offensive Player of the Year in 2007 after completing 331 of his 521 passes for 4,263 yards, 23 touchdowns and only five interceptions.

The 6-foot-6 Flacco became the Blue Hens' starter in 2006, a year after transferring from Pittsburgh. He averaged 3,500 passing yards and 21 touchdowns while displaying an outstanding arm and tremendous accuracy when in the pocket.

Flacco is an improving decision-maker who is learning when to make the tough throws. But he's done it against substandard competition at a low level. Flacco can be rattled at times when chased out of the pocket. But his outstanding arm and size could allow him to elevate his game from "work-in-progress" to solid starter.
