The Star Treatment: High-Definition Makeup
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
High-definition TV has changed the way celebrities get ready for major events.
Now, you can steal the same beauty secrets the stars use to get a
flawless face. CBS 3 anchor Liz Keptner gets you ready for your close-up.
Celebrity hair and makeup stylist David Evangelista knows what it takes to look picture perfect.
"Some of the celebrities I've worked with are Eva Longoria from Desperate Housewives, Becki Newton from Ugly Betty, and Julia Stiles," he said.
Evangelista makes stars look good even under the microscope of high-definition television.
"To get a celebrity for an event, depending on what the event is, it can take anywhere from an hour to three, three and a half hours," he said.
The result? A flawless face. Want to steal the look? You can now find high-definition cosmetics that promise full coverage without looking thick or cakey.
"It was created originally for actors and actresses to be used on television, but women anywhere --no matter whether they're on TV or not ---want to have that kind of smooth, even, glowing complexion," said Amy Keller-Laird of Allure Magazine.
Brands like CARGO, Smashbox and Dior have all started marketing HD cosmetics, including foundation, pressed powder, mascara and lip gloss. Another brand, Make Up For Ever, actually spoke to movie producers and lighting directors.
Dermatologist Ranella Hirsch said the products work.
"They all use what are called photochromatic pigments. Those are pigments that react to the ambient light that you're in at a given moment," she said.
The companies claim the pigments adjust whether you're in the sun or under a harsh fluorescent light.
We asked Evangelista to take some of the make-up for a test drive.
"It definitely evened everything out. It gave coverage in a very thin way that wasn't too transparent," he said.
But at the end of the day, Evangelista says it's all about being comfortable in your own skin.
"Makeup is a very personal thing, as style is, so I just say, you know, try it all and see what works best for you," he said.
These new cosmetics cost anywhere from $25-75. Some examples include:
