Shower On Tan
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
We all want that summer glow and there are plenty of tanning products that promise to deliver, without getting out in the sun. But there is a new tanning product on the market, and it promises an even tan - all you have to do is add water.
Splashing around at the beach gives you a natural tan, but exposure to the sun's harmful rays has many looking towards a bottle tan for that natural glow - though self tanners come with their own drawbacks.
"I didn't want people to have to wait around and to feel sticky and to wait to see if they were going to turn orange or a false color," said Diana Barton of Diana B. Beauty.
So Diana developed a shower on tanner.
"It's three easy steps, works in the shower. Use it when your skin is wet, rinse it off with no soap, hop out, pat dry and you're tan," said Diana.
The tanner is a water activated, sugar protein that works on the surface of your skin. Diana told us that you should stay tan beyond your next shower.
"It's not like a foundation that disappears and washes off entirely. It penetrates the skin to a certain degree on the surface and the color does gradually develop," said Diana.
Christa Smith volunteered to try the 60 Second Instant Miracle Tan.
"Rinse off all other product before you put the product on, that way you are clean, water wet," Diana told Christa.
Christa applied the product herself, following Diana's instructions - rubbing on the mousse with the gloves provided, waiting 60 seconds and then rinsing off.
Did it work? Christa's results were not dramatic, but for a darker tan, Diana says you can leave the product on longer.
"It gave a nice even tan," said Christa.
But Christa said there were pros and cons.
"I like that it's fast and you can control how tan you get, but I don't like how you have to wear the rubber gloves in the shower cause they get full of water and it's very messy," said Christa.
Christa later told us the tan washed off in her next shower, but it would still be something she might use for a special event.
