Health: Botox Blunders

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― It's supposed to make you look younger, but when Botox gets into the wrong hands, bad things can happen, like stretched up eyelids and uneven eyebrows.

"It was administered poorly. It's my face, you know. The eyes are the window to your soul and here you have these drooping eyelids. Yes, it was a bit of a panic," said Brandy Obaya, who says she had to have additional Botox injections from a different doctor to correct the first mistake.

It happened at one of those popular Botox parties at someone's house, where technicians often offer discounts.

"You go to a Botox party to save money and you end up having to pay more to have it fixed," said Brandy.

Botox injections can cost from $500 to $1500 dollars. It works by temporarily paralyzing muscles that cause wrinkles. The results will eventually wear off.

"Do a little research before you decide who you're going to go to. Ask a friend," said Dr. Laura Bennack, who repaired Brandy's problem.

She says patients should look for training certificates.

Brandy says she's giving up the Botox parties, but will continue to get the wrinkle treatments with Dr. Bennack.

"I have a very smooth finish," said Brandy.

Doctors say Botox blunders are rare. Millions of people get the injections routinely with occasional mild reactions, like temporary swelling, redness, or bruising.
