3 On Your Side: Wedding Cost Savings
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
The financial crisis has taken a bite out of millions of savings accounts and Your Money Team knows that for many brides, planning a wedding this year that means making some tough choices.
As we help you Survive in '09, 3-On Your Side's Jim Donovan has advice on ways to cut costs and still have the wedding of your dreams.
Looking for ways to cut your wedding costs? Look beyond the dress.
Wedding planner Gabrielle Stone says be flexible when it comes to your date.
Stone says, "A Saturday night wedding in June is going to be far more expensive than a Sunday late afternoon brunch in November."
Next, watch your numbers.
"If you can, pare down your guest list and make it a more intimate event. You can save an awful lot of money."
Bar tabs can be bridal budget busters. So if you really want to save, consider keeping the bar to just beer and wine.
Also, while you don't want to skimp on photography, photographer Natalie Bergeron says you can download savings by going all digital.
"People don't really want that coffee table book anymore," says Bergeron.
Couples can choose a less expensive online gallery to share their photos and going digital can also help save on your music. Simply program your iPod and pipe it through speakers.
Finally, chose flowers carefully. You'll spend a lot less by choosing flowers that are in-season. In-season blooms will give you a lot of bang for the buck. A bride's bouquet can cost more than $200, but you can wow your guests for a lot less.
