WMMR's Preston Tackles Krav Maga Workout

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Finding the motivation to get in shape isn't easy, but one local radio personality got his kick start through a martial art that is growing in popularity.

WMMR's Preston Elliot lost 60 pounds recently and shared with our very own Anne-Marie Green the secret of his success.

By the looks of his slim physique, and force of his punch, Preston Elliot looks like a born fighter.

But just two years ago, the popular radio host wasn't anywhere near fighting weight behind the mic at the Preston and Steve Show.

Today it's a different story.

Preston is a believer in Krav Maga, the official self-defense method of the Israeli Defense Forces.

"I've tried joining gyms and doing cardio workouts and to be honest, it's very boring," said Elliot.

But this workout is anything but boring.

"It's a realistic approach to self defense, anyone can do it. We teach you basic techniques, based on natural instincts," said Ernie Kirk, owner, Premier Martial Arts.

"I come here and I'm physically wiped out and shot when I'm finished but almost an hour later, after I get over the exhaustion, I feel great," said Elliot.

Preston trains twice a week with a personal trainer, it costs up to a $100 an hour, but group classes are much less expensive.

"You realize, you think, I just did that. I put a 250 pound guy on the ground, and you know, it's a system check, and it's "I'm okay,'" said Athena Clarkin.

You can train this Saturday with Preston at the Premier Martial Arts Studios in Glen Mills.
