Health: Power Plate Workout
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
The fitness secret of the stars has come to the Philadelphia area with a unique twist.
Medical Reporter Stephanie Stahl has the first look at a brand new kind of shape up.
Cher and Madonna say it keeps them in shape. Sean Combs and Heidi Klum swear by it too.
So does Charlene Roth of Conshohocken.
"I can definitely feel it in my waist, in my clothes, in my legs," said Charlene.
She has lost 15 pounds just in time for her June wedding with the help of, the Power Plate.
The machine that's keeping the stars toned and tight with a series of exercises like squats and push ups done on a platform that vibrates.
The technology is pretty basic. The vibrations force a more intense muscle contraction while you work out.
"It all started with Madonna in England," said Lionel Braunecker, owner of Biotonic.
"She was amazed about the power of the machine," said Braunecker.
Now they're taking America by storm. Biotonic is the first power plate studio in the region.
"It's an easy way to get your body toner and firmer on a very short period of time," said Braunecker.
It only takes 20 to 30 minutes which is what attracted Lori Levin, a busy mother of two.
"I can come here and in 20 minutes get in a workout that will tone my body in a way that I don't think I can get from some of the other workouts," said Lori.
And she's inspired by Cher who's 61 and Heidi who gets in shape so fast after having babies.
"Because when you see the stars you figure I've got to do more. They do, they work out a lot," said Lori.
The Biotonic power plate studio is in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County.
In addition to super charging a workout, there's some evidence the machine can help fight osteoporosis and reduce the risk of fractures.
One session costs $35 or you can buy a package.
