3 On Your Side: GM Offers Employee Pricing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Are you in the market for a new car or maybe thinking of trading in a gas guzzler for something more fuel efficient?

If so, you may want to hold off at least until Wednesday as one automaker is launching some new discounts in an effort to boost sagging sales.

Beginning Wednesday, General Motors is offering employee pricing to everyone on nearly all 2008 and some 2009 vehicles.

"Customers can save thousands of dollars with this deal and it really is an interesting opportunity for somebody who needs a new car right now," says Jeannine Fallon of Edmunds.com.

She says GM is motivated at a time when vehicle sales have been down.

"It means a lot to them from an ego perspective from a share holder perspective, they really don't want to lose that top spot. They are going to do what they can to sell as many vehicles as possible," Fallon said.

General Motors says the deal includes all 2008 vehicles except medium-duty trucks. Eligible 2009 vehicles are the Chevrolet Cobalt and HHR, the Pontiac Vibe and G5 and the Cadillac CTS.

Along with offering employee-level pricing, on certain models they'll be giving cash back too!

That's the case with the Chevrolet Silverado pick-up.

According to Fallon, "There are cash back incentives to buy some of the less fuel efficient vehicles which are really not moving off the lots even though the gas prices are falling."

The discounts will be available until September 2. No word on whether any other automakers plan to match these incentives or offer additional deals of their own.
