3 On Your Side: Redeeming Converter Box Coupon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
The entire country will soon be going digital, digital TV that is. Are you ready for the switch?
3 On Your Side's Jim Donovan explains a few things you need to know about the digital converter boxes.
By next February, all television stations in the country are required to ditch their analog signal and broadcast digitally.
So what does that mean for you?
If you've applied for the government issued coupon voucher for a converter box, there's a good chance you've received it by now.
But do you have questions about how to redeem it? First of all, the vouchers are to be used to help pay for the cost of a digital converter box.
You'll need one of the boxes if you have an older TV set which uses an antenna or you don't subscribe to cable, satellite or any other pay-TV service.
Lyn Gallagher is one of many area residents who will need a converter box for one of her television sets in order for her to watch TV. She applied for and received her coupon recently in the mail and went to Wal-Mart to pick one up.
Redeeming it was easy so Lyn headed home to hook it up. She wondered whether it would be difficult but after a couple simple plug in's to the box and her TV, "It was as easy as buying it, I hooked it up with no trouble at all," she said happily.
She lives in an area that usually gets fuzzy reception, but when the box was hooked up, she was very impressed.
"Oh my goodness, look at Ukee, I can see him clearly on Channel 3, this is wonderful," said very excitedly.
Her advice to anyone who has an older TV set that uses an antenna, and you haven't gotten a converter box, "For the cost, even without the coupon, it's worth it, it's well worth it."
As Lyn found out, you don't have to wait until next year to use these converter boxes. They can be used now to get a great picture on older televisions that use an antenna.
