Predators Using Cell Phones To Prey On Teens

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Child predators are now using cell phones, in particular text messaging, to prey on their young victims.

Parents give their children cell phones to keep them safe, but are the phones putting children at risk?

Police are urging parents to watch who their children are texting.

Often times, parents have no idea who their children are even talking to.

However, new technology from a company called Radar allows parents to track who is texting their children.

On the company's Web site, parents can see the phone number the text came from and they can read the message that was sent.

These days, children can unknowingly exchange phone numbers with pedophiles online in chat rooms and get a text.

Investigators say pedophiles fearing capture through stings on the computer are switching to text messaging on cell phones.

"It's harder to track text messaging and the suspects know this," Colorado District Attorney Mike Harris said. "But also kids go to school, they don't take their computer with them but kids take that cell phone everywhere."

The service, which you can find at mymobilewatchdog.com, costs about $10 dollars a month.
